Anti-Scam Policy

Last updated October 16, 2026

Scammers target remote workers and small businesses. Here is how VAStars fights scams — and how to protect yourself.

1. Banned on VAStars

Fake job offers, phishing, requests for upfront fees, pyramid or "recruit others" schemes, money mule or reshipping jobs, and any attempt to collect passwords, IDs or bank details under false pretences. Accounts involved are removed immediately.

2. Red flags for professionals

  • You're asked to pay for training, equipment or a "starter kit" before you begin.
  • A client sends a cheque or overpays and asks you to send money back.
  • Offers that are far above market rate for very little work.
  • Interviews held only by text on unfamiliar chat apps, with pressure to decide fast.
  • Requests to receive, move or convert money or crypto for someone else.
  • Requests for your bank login, OTP codes or ID photos before a contract exists.

3. Red flags for businesses

  • Profiles whose photos, work samples or reviews appear elsewhere under other names.
  • Refusal to do a video call or a short paid trial task.
  • Asking for full payment upfront for large projects.
  • Pushing for access to accounts or systems beyond the job's scope.

4. Stay safe

Verify identities with a video call, use written contracts, pay or get paid through traceable methods, share account access with limited permissions, and never send money to get a job. VAStars staff will never ask for your password.

5. Report a scam

Email us with the profile or message link and screenshots. If you've lost money, also contact your bank and local authorities (in the Philippines, the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group; in the US, the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov).
